    Plaquenil helps joint pain

My rheumatologist is running tests but thinks I have a mixed connective tissue disease. I noticed plaquenil helping with my fatigue more so than anything else. I just want some relief from the knee, shoulder and wrist pain. It does help my joint pain but I need extra help from other meds too It can take up to 6 months to get in your system and fully work, each person is different.

Taking plaquenil gave me moderate relief from the joint pain. I only stopped taking it because my primary physician would not keep prescribing it; she insisted that I should see the rheumatologist regularly. I could no longer afford to see him or the other specialists I was seeing. Plaquenil is prescribed as a disease-modifier, in other words, to decrease pain, decrease swelling, and prevent joint damage and disability. It is not known how Plaquenil works but researchers believe that Plaquenil interferes with communication between cells within the immune system. Ultimately, it is thought to block proinflammatory pathways. Joint pain is found among people who take Plaquenil, especially for people who are female, 60+ old, have been taking the drug for 2 - 5 years, also take medication Enbrel, and have Pain.

If it does not help the joint pain be sure to talk to your doctor, there are other meds they can give you to help. From what I understand, it is "the first line of defense" and definitely worth a try! I pray it doesn't take that long for you to get some relief. Plaquenil was great for the pain and swelling but did almost nothing for the fatigue. Of all the meds, Plaquenil was the best for me and helped the most, but some people don't tolerate it.

Joint pain in SS patients is generally milder than true RA patients. My sed rate and other tests for RA were normal, but I'm off the charts for SS-A and SS-B. It's different for everyone it seems. For me plaquenil seems to have worked. I had a lot of cortisone shots before plaquenil and I didn't tolerate long term prednisone very well. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is considered a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is commonly used for treating joint pain in Sjögren’s syndrome patients, based in part on its efficacy in treating the joint pain of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis.

Hi Everyone - I just had follow up labs after going gluten free and beginning a vitamin regimen that includes cinnamon and fish oil. CONDITION it’s not a sure sign of an autoimmune disease. Do steroids and Plaquenil change the ANA results? Lupus. Are there interferences in the measurement of antinuclear.
