Side effects of chloroquine ncbi Is there a difference between plaquenil and hydroxychloroquine

After going on Plaquenil most of that has subsided. Now I am having a pain with a burning sensation in my right elbow with muscle spasms. If anything is touching the elbow, even material, the burning sensation intensifies to where he feels like I am actually burning the skin. Sep 17, 2016 Among her worst symptoms of this horrible flare are very severe muscle spasms and intense neuropathy. When she tries to relax in the evening and into the night, these muscle spasms kick in. They are so severe that we've made multiple trips to the ER for IV meds. Jul 18, 2008 I have already decided to stop taking it until I can speak with my rheumy. I have another medical condition that could cause this severe back pain. I'm thinking this is likely a coincidence that I developed this problem right after starting the Plaquenil. Also, does anyone know what typr of muscle damage Plaquenil can cause?

The exact mechanism is unknown, but the cramps are probably caused by muscle fatigue and nerve dysfunction rather than electrolyte or other abnormalities. The recurrent, painful tightening usually occurs in the calf muscles and can cause severe insomnia.

  7. Apr 28, 2009 I've been taking Plaquenil 400 mg for nearly 6 mos. I didn't seem to have any problems whatsoever with it initially, other than very short term and mild cramping/diarrhea. But now I've been dealing with considerable muscle aching and pain/spasm in some new places - or at least places that haven't bothered me in quite awhile.

Re Do you have muscle pains/spasms with lupus or hughes? I often get severe spasms in my back and with a flare, my muscles hurt in my arms and legs. I am not sure if it is from lupus or fibromyalgia as I suffer from both diseases. Nocturnal leg cramps are a common cause of pain in the legs that can disrupt sleep. They are present in nearly 50 percent of those over the age of 50. Leg cramps are characterized by sudden muscle tightness, most commonly in the foot, thigh, or calf, that may last from seconds to minutes. I use a bar of ivory free soap in our sheets also just like Ezra suggested. I found out about this very strange trick when I was in the hosp all the time and had those cramps/spasms and a nurse told me about it. I thought she was nuts but would try anything lol. It worked! This has also been a huge help for hubby and his RLS!
