I was wondering if anyone experienced blurry vision on Plaquenil. I have been on Plaquenil for about a month. Every now and then I notice some of the words on the television are blurry, then there are other times my eyes are fine. Should this be a big concern? I Just curious if any of you have had occasional blurred vision? I take Plaquenil but my eye exsams have been fine. No change in my eyesight. This has been going on for awhile and I keep forgetting to tell my RA Doctor. Plaquenil is considered to be pretty safe, but it can rarely damage the eyes. Patients that take Plaquenil should have their eyes checked by an eye doctor at least once a year to make sure the medication isn’t affecting the retina at the back of each eye.

Answer: When billing Plaquenil examinations, or any other high risk medication exams, it is appropriate to bill the systemic disease or any ocular manifestations as the primary diagnosis since many payers may not reimburse for the high-risk medication diagnosis as a stand-alone diagnosis.
